This is your opportunity to gain inside knowledge about the inaugural production of the new chamber opera series The Lighthouse by Peter Maxwell Davies. Â This extended edition of Opera Insights will include a discussion about the composer and a presentation from the production team about the technical challenges, in addition to the normal panel discussion with the cast.
3:00pm — Discussion with Michael Heaston, Head of Music Staff & Assistant Conductor for the Dallas Opera. Joined by Wayne Lee Gay, a longtime classical music critic who currently contributes to D Magazine’s arts blog while teaching in the English department at the University of North Texas and also writing fiction. Moderated by Dallas Opera General Director & CEO Keith Cerny.

Conducted by Nicole Paiement and staged by DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty in his opera debut, The Lighthouse  is an eerie and compelling 1979 thriller based on the mysterious disappearance of a trio of lighthouse keepers off the Scottish coast.
What happened in the lighthouse, and how did three experienced men vanish without a trace? The plot of this chamber opera serves up both supernatural and psychological explanations in equal measure, as Peter Maxwell Davies’ intense, atmospheric and haunting music carries us on the tide to another world!
