The Dallas Arboretum Celebrates Black Heritage

The Dallas Arboretum has set the date for the 3rd annual Black Heritage Celebration (BHC), presented by Bank of America, for May 6 and Sunday, May 7. The 2-day event will take place in the 66-acre garden overlooking White Rock Lake and will feature chef demonstrations, musicians, Black-owned vendors, a fashion show, and an entrepreneur showcase. Black Heritage Celebration is open to the public and is included in the general admission to the Dallas Arboretum.

Verdigris Ensemble performs SHAMS, a unique musical and visual collaboration with the Crow Museum of Asian Art.

This powerful performance incorporates 16 voices, a string quartet, pre-recorded sounds, visual projection, and staging.SHAMS boasts the most extensive collection worldwide of Rumi (13th-century Persian mystic) poetry set to music in its original Persian (Farsi) language.

A powerful performance three years in the making, featuring:

  • Music by Sahba Aminikia
  • Poetry from the original text, Divani Shams, by Iranian American author Zara Houshmand.
  • Art by Kevork Mourad
  • Performed by Verdigris Ensemble of 16 voices
  • String Quartet by Dallas Symphony Orchestra
  • Conceived and directed by Sam Brukhman
