Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening, genetic disease affecting approximately 70,000 children and adults; yet, there is no government funding for CF research. All research and progress towards finding better treatments and a cure rely on funding from events like this.

The CFCS is put on by the Breathe Easy Foundation (BEF). The goal of both the CFCS and the Breathe Easy Foundation is to help raise awareness of the disease and raise funds for the great strides being made towards CF research. BEF proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The CF Concert Series was started in 2007 as a small effort organized by local music fans with a personal interest in helping to find better treatments and a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Rhett Miller has been a staple of the annual event, helping to raise nearly $100,000 in support of the Cystic Fibrosis cause. Other local musicians that have performed in support of CF include Murry Hammond, Brent Best, Ben Kweller, Doug Burr and Glen Farris.

About Rhett Miller

Texas native Rhett Miller is perhaps best known as the frontman of the Dallas-based alt-country band Old 97’s. He first hit the music scene in 1989 with his solo album “Mythologies,” which was produced and recorded by future Old 97’s member Murry Hammond. Hammond and Miller went on to form alterna-pop band The Sleepy Heroes with drummer Benjamin Warrenfells in 1990, releasing one album titled “Under a Radio Sun.”

In addition to recording seven studio albums and one live album with the Old 97’s, Miller has also enjoyed success in his solo career. His 2002 album “The Instigator” received critical acclaim and substantial airplay on alternative radio stations. In 2006 Miller released “The Believer,” his first effort for the Verve Forecast label. His most recent album, “Rhett Miller,” was released in June 2009 and deemed to be Miller’s “strongest solo set ever” by Rolling Stone.

Rhett Miller has been a staple of the CF Concert Series since the beginning and continues to be a great contributor to the cause to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
