May is a great month to enjoy the beautiful weather at events in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. You and your family can enter a costume contest on the closing weekend of Scarborough Renaissance Festival, celebrate Memorial Day at the Dallas Arboretum and so much more!

Here are a few fun things to do in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in May.

Commemorate Memorial Day Weekend at the Dallas Arboretum

Saturday thru Monday, May 25- 27, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Dallas Arboretum has planned a wonderful Memorial Day weekend of activities in the main garden and the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.
 
FREE Admission for Vets and First Responders
 
In honor of our armed forces, the Arboretum offers FREE admission into the main garden all three days for active duty members and veterans of the United States military, and first responders with a valid photo ID. Emporium Pies’ ice cream truck, Rick’s Smokehouse BBQ, complimentary face painters, and a petting zoo will be onsite all weekend from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
 
Enjoy free craft beer and wine samples; and $2 hot dogs and $2 root beer floats, available at the Terrace Café. Entertainment free with paid garden admission.
              
Live Music on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn
 
  • May 25, 2-4 p.m.: The Red Wine Band kicks off the weekend bringing their Texas Country music to the garden.
  • May 26, 2-4 p.m.: Dance with one of Dallas’ most popular dance bands, Downtown Fever, an Emerald City Party Band.
  • May 27, Noon-2 p.m.: 3K Sisters, an indie folk-pop family band, delights with their unique sound and talented multi-instrumentalist band members.

Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden
Learn the science behind some of the symbols and traditions of the holiday. A special lab will bring the red, white, and blue to the garden in exciting ways. Daily labs, demonstrations and permanent exhibits add to the learning adventure.
 
The Dallas Zoo, Entry Plaza
May 27 (only), 11:15 a.m.                                            
The Dallas Zoo is bringing a few of their favorite friends for an animal encounter. Stop by for a wild adventure with interesting critters.

Wildflower Arts and Music Festival

One of the most popular cultural events in North Texas, the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival returns to Richardson, Texas this month with well-known musical acts, exciting performers, family-friendly activities, local art vendors, and more.

The 3-day festival will be held May 17-19 at Galatyn Urban Park in Richardson.
