Zapruder and Stolley: Witness to an Assassination

Zapruder and Stolley: Witness to an Assassination
A Roger Sherman Film
November 19, 2011 – 2:00 PM

Days after his latest book 11/22/63 hits store shelves, author Stephen King hosts a Sixth Floor Museum fundraiser at Majestic Theatre in Dallas.  While Dallas is one of five stops on the 11/22/63 book tour, it is the only city in which King will participate in a fund raiser. Very seldom does he make public appearances. According to King, “I chose them because touring the Depository was vital for the book, and everyone – from Gary Mack on down – was so helpful.”

On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas. If you had the chance to change history, would you? Stephen King’s latest novel 11/22/63, on shelves November 8, addresses this very scenario as the book’s main character travels back in time on a mission to prevent the assassination of President Kennedy.

I tried to write this book in 1972 but it was too emotionally raw then,” King said. “Nearly 40 years later, exploring The Sixth Floor Museum and learning from staff there was critical in helping the book come together.

In what is expected to be a sell-out event, King will be front and center at a fundraiser at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas on Thursday, November 10, benefiting The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. The program begins at 7 p.m. There will be an exclusive reception featuring the author at 5:45 p.m. followed by an interview with King at 7 p.m. The conversation will be facilitated by Dallas columnist and broadcaster Lee Cullum.

Tickets are required and go on sale Wednesday, October 5 at 9:00 a.m. CT. Tickets range from $40 to $250.  To learn more about the event or to purchase tickets, visit www.showclix.com/event/stephenking. Or, call 1.888.718.4253.

Rhett Miller Headlines Cystic Fibrosis Concert at the Granada Theater

The Cystic Fibrosis Concert Series (CFCS) is proud to announce the 2011 concert lineup: Rhett Miller returns to the bill for his fifth year in a row, joined by singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe and Dallas’ own rowdy pop folk duo, The O’s. These artists take to the Granada Theater stage on Saturday, November 12 in an effort to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Both Rhett Miller (with his band, The Old 97′s) and Sarah Jaffee were two of the headliners at the 2011 DOMA (Dallas Observer Music Awards) Showcase on October 15th.

VIP tickets are available for $85 and will be limited to 100 people. It includes early entrance at 6pm, an exclusive artist meet & greet with special performances, hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary VIP goody bag. General admission tickets are $30 per person with the show beginning at 8pm. Purchase your tickets at granadatheater.com. The day of show, general admission tickets will be $36 per person.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening, genetic disease affecting approximately 70,000 children and adults; yet, there is no government funding for CF research. All research and progress towards finding better treatments and a cure rely on funding from events like this.

The CFCS is put on by the Breathe Easy Foundation (BEF). The goal of both the CFCS and the Breathe Easy Foundation is to help raise awareness of the disease and raise funds for the great strides being made towards CF research. BEF proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The CF Concert Series was started in 2007 as a small effort organized by local music fans with a personal interest in helping to find better treatments and a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Rhett Miller has been a staple of the annual event, helping to raise nearly $100,000 in support of the Cystic Fibrosis cause. Other local musicians that have performed in support of CF include Murry Hammond, Brent Best, Ben Kweller, Doug Burr and Glen Farris.

About Rhett Miller

Texas native Rhett Miller is perhaps best known as the frontman of the Dallas-based alt-country band Old 97’s. He first hit the music scene in 1989 with his solo album “Mythologies,” which was produced and recorded by future Old 97’s member Murry Hammond. Hammond and Miller went on to form alterna-pop band The Sleepy Heroes with drummer Benjamin Warrenfells in 1990, releasing one album titled “Under a Radio Sun.

In addition to recording seven studio albums and one live album with the Old 97’s, Miller has also enjoyed success in his solo career. His 2002 album “The Instigator” received critical acclaim and substantial airplay on alternative radio stations. In 2006 Miller released “The Believer,” his first effort for the Verve Forecast label. His most recent album, “Rhett Miller,” was released in June 2009 and deemed to be Miller’s “strongest solo set ever” by Rolling Stone.

Rhett Miller has been a staple of the CF Concert Series since the beginning and continues to be a great contributor to the cause to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
